Sofa cleaning in London

A sofa can look tidy and still need more than hoovering along the cushions. Food marks, everyday use and spills can affect the fabric and filling. Star Domestic Cleaners arranges sofa cleaning across London and the M25. Tell us whether the sofa is two-seater, three-seater, a corner unit or another style. Explain the material, stains and any previous cleaning. We will discuss the pieces involved and the suitable assessment before confirming a quote. This page focuses on sofas and seating arrangements; if you have dining chairs or several different upholstered items, include those separately in your enquiry.

Count the pieces, not just the seats

The description “three-seater” does not explain everything about the job. A sofa may have separate back cushions, scatter cushions, a chaise section or a matching footstool. A modular corner sofa may be made up of several units. Tell us what you want included and whether the cushions can be removed. Mention the sides, back and arms if they also need treatment. If there is a sofa bed, explain whether you are asking about the sofa upholstery, the mattress or both. A clear list helps the team quote for the actual furniture rather than a smaller item with the same seating label.

Find the material and care instructions

Check under the cushions or underneath the frame for the care label. Keep any manufacturer’s information about the fabric and cleaning instructions. Furniture can look similar while having very different materials and dye behaviour. Velvet, wool, delicate blends and coated surfaces need particular care. Tell us if the sofa has been reupholstered or if you cannot identify the material. We would rather know that information is missing than rely on an uncertain guess. The cleaner may need to inspect or test the fabric before deciding on treatment. A removable cover is not necessarily designed to go through a domestic washing machine.

Talk about stains honestly

List the stains you are concerned about and explain how they happened where possible. A recent drink spill is different from a long-standing mark treated several times with cleaning foam. Mention pet accidents and any odour coming from the cushions. Cleaning may not remove every stain, particularly where the colour or structure of the fabric has changed. Burns, fading, torn seams and flattened cushions are not ordinary dirt. If one seat is much more worn than the rest, explain that too. The cleaner can assess the condition, but a website cannot promise a uniform new appearance without seeing the sofa.

Covers, cushions and the filling

The treatment has to take account of more than the visible surface. Cushions can contain different fillings, and some covers fit tightly after manufacture. Do not unzip everything and wash it before the visit unless the care instructions and booking arrangements support that. Tell us whether cushions are fixed, loose or reversible. If there are marks on both sides, mention them when asking what is included. A spill may have reached the filling, which affects how the problem can be approached. Ask what will be treated and which parts may be excluded, rather than using “the whole sofa” to mean different things on each side of the booking.

Prepare a practical working area

Move small tables, fragile ornaments, throws and personal belongings away from the sofa where possible. The cleaner needs room for the equipment and access to the surfaces included in the quote. Describe tight spaces, narrow doors, stairs and any building restrictions. A heavy corner unit should not be moved without a safe arrangement. Tell us about nearby electrical items and any issues with water or power access. If a room has several sofas, explain whether they all need cleaning. Keep pets away from the working area and agree entry instructions if you will be out during the appointment.

Leave time for the sofa to dry

Drying depends on the chosen method, material, cushion filling and room conditions. Ask for advice for your particular sofa and plan another place to sit until it is ready. Do not cover damp cushions or press them against one another unless that is part of the aftercare advice. Give the room suitable ventilation while following the cleaner’s instructions. If you have visitors arriving or need to use a sofa bed that evening, mention the timing before booking. It may be better to arrange the clean earlier. A rushed schedule can make an otherwise straightforward visit inconvenient for your household.

Understand the price before booking

The current public price list includes starting rates for two-seater and three-seater sofas, with different figures for some treatment methods. The correct quote depends on your sofa, material, size and condition, not just the label on a price table. Ask which pieces and sides are included, whether stain treatment is part of the price and whether protection is an optional extra. Minimum charges, availability, location and congestion charges may be relevant. Give details of matching chairs or rugs at the same time if you want a combined appointment. Confirm the total before assuming an advertised starting rate covers the entire seating arrangement.

Everyday care after treatment

Follow the furniture care guide for routine hoovering and cleaning. Check whether the hoover attachment is suitable for the fabric and do not scrub delicate material with a stiff brush. If cushions can be turned or rotated, follow the manufacturer’s instructions rather than forcing them into another position. Keep direct sunlight and recurring spill risks in mind when deciding how to use the room. Save the care label and details of previous treatments for future enquiries. If you have a question after the visit, contact the team with the booking details and a clear description of the item and concern.

Questions about sofa cleaning

Can you clean a corner sofa?

Describe the number of units, the chaise section and the cushions involved. A photograph can help explain the arrangement. We will discuss the scope and price for that sofa rather than treat it as a standard three-seater.

Is a footstool included?

Do not assume it is. Add the footstool to the item list and explain its material. Matching pieces can have different care needs, and the quote should make clear which furniture is included.

What information should I have ready?

Your postcode, sofa style, approximate size, care label if available and details of stains or previous treatments. Call 020 3404 6962 to discuss those points and the available appointment times.
